Magical Evening in the Magic Kingdom
Have you ever had one of those experiences that you didn’t think would happen to you? Of course, we all have had a couple. I had one as a photographer last month. I was contacted to shoot a set of portraits, not too big of a deal, right? This set of portraits were to be taken inside the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. Now we are getting somewhere. The couple were on vacation from South Africa and it was going to be a engagement proposal, in front of the castle. OMG pinch me now. I got to photograph a Magical Evening in the Magic Kingdom.
When the big day arrived, wouldn’t you know, it was storming. We are talking about a lot of wind and a lot of rain and some lightning thrown in for good measure. After secretly conversing back and forth with Mario, we decided that it had to happen that day. Their schedule didn’t allow for much flexibility and he wasn’t sure how much longer he was going to be able to hide the ring from Kyla.
As I showed up to the Magic Kingdom, early to look for the best locations, I finally got to meet the beautiful couple. Right away, you can feel the love that they shared for each other. I knew right there that the night at the Magic Kingdom was going to be magic. I asked Kyla to share some of her experience and this is what she wrote.
“Our high school sweetheart fairy tale began 6 years ago when I was 16 years old and he in his final year of high school. Our young love withstood the test of time, distance and growing up and peaked in December 2018 in front of Cinderella’s Castle in Magic Kingdom, Disney World, Florida when he asked me to marry him.
A year ago already we started planning our trip to the USA from our hometown in South Africa. We were extremely excited for our first overseas holiday together and worked night shifts, saved up our money, applied for our visas and eventually set foot in New York where we spent 3 memorable days!
Then came Disney World, my DREAM, but little did I know what was actually waiting for me! I was completely unaware that carefully hidden amongst our luggage was a beautiful diamond ring that had made its way through strict border security and numerous luggage scans at 4 different airports. The moment had been meticulously planned over several months and the day had finally arrived.
When we arrived at Disney World it was pouring with rain but nothing could stop Josh, our photographer, and Mario, my now fiancée, from getting the ring on my finger. After several days of hiding the ring from me and moving it between suitcases he couldn’t wait any longer and decided that it would have to happen come rain or shine. I was in total oblivion but thought a photo session, with the castle as backdrop, was a very sweet idea to capture our Disney memories.
I even made a few comments about how he was not paying attention to my childlike amazement and excitement about all the attractions and magic around us, not realizing he was putting his words together in preparation for the big question!
With Josh behind the camera, Mario on one knee, me in tears and the crowd cheering the moment was more than words could ever describe and beyond what I could’ve ever dream of! I was the luckiest girl in the happiest place on earth!
Today I am back in South Africa with the most beautiful ring on my finger and the love of my live closer to me than ever before with breath taking photos to always remember the special moment we shared 8156 miles away from home.”
As you can see, it was a magic evening. What she didn’t mention is that with all of the raining and lightning throughout the day, it stopped when it was time for the pictures to begin. We ran around Disney for the rest of the evening and didn’t get one drop on us.
That December night, I got the chance to document the beginning of a beautiful marriage. I wish them nothing but the best and 100 years of marital bliss. Mario and Kyla if you need a wedding photographer…….I know just the guy.
